Flavorul Dinner @ Flavors, Renaissance Bangkok

If you are looking for a place to fill up your stomach with good food and fill your soul with colors, Flavors at Renaissance Bangkok is a good option. Not only does it offer an international buffet line, the restaurant currently has the Mediterranean dinner choices running as well. The restaurant is beautifully and elegantly decorated using the gold, brown and crystal theme. If you are going there, I suggest tables by the windows. It over looks the Sukhumvit road. It is kind of fun to see the transition from the busy evening scene to the more calm night scene. To reserve a table, call 02-125-5000. Parking spaces are available. If you do not want to drive, simply take the BTS and get off at Chidlom station. From there, it is just 5 minute walk. Quite convenient.

The buffet prices are 1,450++ Thai Baht for weekdays (Monday - Thursday) and 1,750++ Thai Baht for weekends (Friday - Sunday). The Sunday brunch is available with more premium food selections.

Before I start a review today, I would like to state here that this review is on a sponsored dinner. I was invited to try out the new Mediterranean dinner buffet at Flavors at Renaissance Bangkok. However, the followings are my honest opinion on the dinner buffet.

Let's start the dinner review. The very first thing that caught my eyes in the buffet line was a big mountain of Alaska crabs, mussels and shrimps. I was impressed. They were fresh as well. You could taste the sweetness of their meat. A man sitting in the table next to ours gobbled up a small mountain of Alaska crabs. Such a lovely sight. Back to the food. The second eye catching thing was the cheese bar. Although not a lot of cheeses to pick and choose, they have three cheeses to go with dry fruits, breads, biscuits, mustard and different hams. Personally, I think the labeling and display are quite cute.

The classic combination, Prosciutto and melon slices, is also available A little bit of salty and sweet taste totally made my evening. The Prosciutto display is quite neat, isn't it?

Mussels a la Marinara left an impression in my mouth. The white wine aroma really compliments the sweetness of the mussels meat. Crabe Bouillabaisse is another dish to try if you are looking for a light seafood dish. You would taste saltiness, sweetness and tanginess in one dish. Quite refreshing and light I may say. These two selections are parts of the Mediterranean dinner buffet.

Personally, I had a blast at the DIY salad bar. It is just where you could make your own salad with available ingredients. You could make various salad like Ceasar salad or just simple vinaigrette salad.

Foie gras was a little bit overcooked, but it was ok. You have three choices of sauce; apple, raspberry and mixed fruits. I like mine with raspberry because the tanginess of the sauce really cuts through the rich and buttery taste. They, in my opinion, go well together.

Surprisingly, Indian food here is quite nice as well. Fish Tikka and Naan Bread were very delicious. Curries were pretty impressive as well.

At the grill station, you see a lot of selections like lamb, pork and beef. Personally, I think Lamb and Pork Skewers were simple but very yummy. My boyfriend and I had two skewers each.

Once we were done with the main stuff, we headed to the dessert bar where you could find many cakes, Thai desserts, homemade ice creams and many more. We had coffee cake with hot Americano. I totally recommend this cake. It was a light sponge cake with crispy sweet sliced almonds. Do not miss it.

There were other cakes like Blueberry Cheesecake, Parline Cake and Amaretto Chocolate Cake. We tried Amaretto Chocolate Cake. It is a very chocolaty heavy cake, and goes towards the dry type rather than the moist ones. Those who loves chocolate would probably enjoy this. Since I am more of a sponge cake fanatic, I love the Coffee Cake a lot more.

A good alternative for people who do not enjoy heavy desserts is Pears in Red Wine.

So how would I rate Flavors? I would give 8.9 out of 10 for overall.
  • 8.75 for Food... We really enjoyed the food we had. There were some impressive dishes like Mussles a la Marinara, skewers, Fish tikka and coffee cake. However, if they get the foie gras right, it would be even better. Also what is nice was the quality and the freshness of the food.
  • 9.5 for Ambiance... Chic and glamorous would be the words I describe Renaissance Bangkok and Flavors. Gold and brown make the restaurant looks really classic, but mirrors, lighting and marbles make it more playful and interesting.
  • 9.0 for Services... The waitresses and waiters were very attentive. They were fast to clear the empty plates and to make sure that our glasses were always full.
  • 8.5 for Prices... The buffet prices are at par with other five-star hotels. If you have credit cards, the restaurant usually have promotions with them.
Until next time, stay full and stay happy.
